It is arguably a special case in planetary science, the Earth being the only known life-bearing planet. There are both reductionist and holistic approaches to Earth science. There are four major disciplines in earth sciences, namely geography, geology, geophysics and geodesy. These major disciplines use physics, chemistry, biology, chronology and mathematics to build a quantitative understanding of the principal areas or spheres of the Earth system. The following fields of science are generally categorized within the geosciences: - Geology describes the b...b

RARE MASSIVE 6-GILL SHARK SIGHTING AT 3300 FT DEPTH!! - This six-gill shark Hexanchus was filmed during a submersible dive off the northeast coast of Molokai at a depth of 1000m 3280ft. The 2 red laser dots are 6 inches apart, resulting in a length of about 18 ft for the shark. Great ecstatic live commentary by University of Hawaii Oceanography Professor Jeff Drazen Many thanks to Dr. Craig Smith University of Hawaii and Dr. Eric Vetter for permitting release of this footage which was obtained as part of their research data set. www.soest.hawaii.edu

Green Bomber Worms - Please join us on Facebook for the latest science news and videos: tinyurl.com Green Bomber Worms: Meet Swima Bombaviridis, a newly discovered species found at great depths of the Pacific Ocean. They drop green bioluminescent bombs to evade predators. --- Please subscribe to Science & Reason: • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com --- Scientists Discover Bioluminescent Green Bombers from the Deep Sea: Orbs lobbed by mysterious worms burst into brilliant light, thought to be a defensive measure. In the latest proof that the oceans continue to offer remarkable findings and much of their vastness remains to be explored, scientists at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego and their colleagues have discovered a unique group of worms that live in the depths of the ocean. The discoveries feature worms—nicknamed green bombers—that can release body parts that produce a brilliant green bioluminescent display. The researchers introduce seven previously unknown species of swimming worms in the annelid phylum ranging from 18 to 93 millimeters .7 to 3.6 inches in length. They were discovered by the scientists using remotely operated vehicles at depths between 1800 and 3700 meters 5900 and 12140 feet. The first species described in the paper has been given the scientific name Swima bombiviridis, referring to its swimming ability and the green bombs. Osborn says one key aspect of the discoveries is that the newly found worms are not rare b...b

Gulf Oil May Not Degrade for Decades! - Alex Jones Tv {Sunday Edition} 6/6 - Gulf Oil May Not Degrade for Decades Washingtons Blog August 22, 2010 As you might have heard, scientists are finding gigantic under oil plumes from the BP spill, including one that is more than 22 miles long, more than a mile wide and 650 feet deep. On Thursday, Dr. Ian MacDonald and and Dr. Lisa Suatoni testified to a Congressional subcommittee that the oil will stay toxic, and will not degrade much further, for decades. MacDonald is an expert in deep-ocean extreme communities including natural hydrocarbon seeps, gas hydrates, and mud volcano systems, a former long-time NOAA scientist, and a professor of Biological Oceanography at Florida State University. Suatoni has a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Yale, and is Senior Scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Councils Oceans Program. Dr. MacDonald told Congress that the oil has already degraded, emulsified and evaporated about as much as its going to, and it is going to very resistant for further biodegradation. The oil will be in the environment for a long-time, he said, and the imprint of the BP discharge will be detectable for the rest of my life hes 58, and the average lifespan for American men is about 76; so thats some 18 years. Dr. Suatoni told Congress that oil which goes into low-oxygen zones will remain in a full toxic form for decades. Why isnt the oil degrading faster? Love for the Dunya (worldy life) -Lecture by Ibrahim Dremali - We will be either one of two types of people on the Day of Judgment. It is our choice to make which group we want to be with. The issue is - When will we make the choice - now or later? Through the 8 ayat from Surah at-Takathur Surah #102, Dr. Dremali explains the effects of loving this Dunya. Also through many inspriational examples he gives reminders on how to work for and long for the everlasting pleasure in the Afterlife. 102 - At-Takathur التكاثر 1:Alhakumut-takathur The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you, 2:Hatta zurtumul maqabir Until you visit the graves ie till you die. 3:Kalla sawfa taalamoon Nay You shall come to know 4:Thumma kalla sawfa taalamoon Again, Nay You shall come to know 5:Kalla law taalamoona ilmal yaqeen Nay If you knew with a sure knowledge the end result of piling up, you would not have occupied yourselves in worldly things 6:Latarawunnal jaheem Verily, You shall see the blazing Fire Hell 7:Thumma latarawunnaha aynal yaqeen And again, you shall see it with certainty of sight 8:Thumma latus-alunna yawma-ithin aniannaeem Then, on that Day, you shall be asked about the delight you indulged in, in this world The nations are about to call each other and set upon you, just as diners set upon food. It was said: Will it be because of our small number that day? He said: Rather, on that day you will be many, but you will be like foam, like the foam on the river. And Allaah will remove the fear of you b...b
